ÁNGELA is a new series on Netflix. This one is a Spanish production and also plays out in Spain. Don’t let the plot descriptions mentioning London fool you; This does indeed play out in Spain.
The confusion probably stems from the fact that this series is a remake of a 2021 limited series that was set in London. I’ll get back to that later. All you need to know right now is that this Spanish version has six episodes and a strong cast.

No easy way out
When we meet Ángela (Verónica Sánchez), it’s obvious from the very first scene that her relationship with her husband, Gonzalo (Daniel Grao), is not good. Soon after, you will see for yourself that he is an angry and abusive husband.
With his career paying all the bills, two young girls to take care of, and the constant threat of his abuse, Ángela is struggling to get through each day. Always trying to avoid setting him off, which is, of course, a losing game.
Suddenly, someone from Ángela’s past (her High School years) comes back into her life. His name is Edu (Jaime Zatarain), and his arrival awakens something deep inside her.
Also, Edu could be the key for her to finally escape the life of terror she has come to know. However, nothing is easy for Ángela, so she has to make some tough (even fatal) choices.
Ángela is based on Angela Black
As already mentioned, this new Spanish thriller series on Netflix is a remake. The original series is from 2021 and was titled Angela Black. So, if you watch this new Spanish production on Netflix and it seems familiar, this could be why.
In fact, if you watch the first episode of Àngela and then check out the trailer for Angela Black, it feels almost like a deja vu. But in English, of course.
I never mind a good remake, and even though it’s often the other way around (foreign language series being remade in English), there is a huge audience for Spanish-language productions as well.

The director of all six episodes is Norberto López Amado, who previously worked on La Chica Invisible on Hulu/Disney+.
The screenwriters for this Spanish remake are Leire Albinarrate, Sara Cano, and Paula Fabra. As already mentioned, it’s based on the British miniseries Angela Black (2021), which was co-produced with Australia.
The creators of the original show (and therefore indirectly this one) were Harry Williams and Jack Williams, who went on to create The Tourist, which has two seasons released in 2022 and 2024, respectively.
This new Spanish remake has six episodes, which is the same as the original. As a thriller series that included a storyline featuring abuse, it does get very uncomfortable and scary at times. Overall, this is solid entertainment.
The Àngela miniseries is on Netflix from September 26, 2025.
