DEXTER: RESURRECTION on Paramount+ Showtime is the latest spin-off in the Dexter Morgan universe. And I am loving it. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the cast is big, bold, and familiar. Read our full Dexter: Resurrection series review here!
DEXTER: RESURRECTION is a new Showtime series about Dexter Morgan, who is still portrayed by Michael C. Hall. This series is a direct sequel to the spin-off Dexter: New Blood, so we’re in the present.
There’s also Dexter: Original Sin about Dexter’s formative years as an avenging serial killer. While that one is very different, I highly recommend checking out that one as well. Not least, as Michael C. Hall is still the inner voice of Dexter.
Getting back to this latest resurrection story, it’s premiering with its first two episodes on Paramount+ with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME® plan. Those should be plenty to get you hooked on our favorite anti-hero all over again. The season has 10 episodes.

Dexter Morgan is back
With Dexter®: Resurrection, the story once again centers on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) in the present. Or actually, we’re also following his son, Harricon (Hack Alcott), as this is the continuation of the story from Dexter: New Blood (read our review here).
When Resurrection opens, it’s with Dexter Morgan in a coma after having been shot by Harrison. To be fair, he did ask his own son to stop his murderous ways himself. While in a coma, Dexter goes down memory lane and is visited by some of the people he killed.
Both good and bad, which makes for some amazing guest stars in episode 1 of Dexter: Resurrection. You’ll see both a tall serial killer and a suspicious Miami Metro colleague who used MF’er a lot. Not least about Dexter.
To hint at just two of them.
Off to the Big Apple
Don’t worry, before the end of episode 1, Dexter does wake up. Then he discovers that Harrison has left for New York City. In the story focusing on Harrison, we also see him struggling with his actions against his own father.
Also, Harrison’s need to protect and punish will soon land him in trouble.
Dexter decides he needs to check up on his son and set things right. Though he isn’t ready to confront the son, he asked to murder him. Father and son are both messes as this story begins, and nothing about the storyline indicates that it will get better soon.
Before Dexter leaves for New York City, he is visited by an old friend. Not while in a coma as a hallucination, but in the flesh. Miami Metro’s own Angel Batista (David Zayas) visits Dexter in the hospital to finally get some answers.
Alongside this, Dexter discovers a serial killer is active in the Big Apple. He’s been given the name The Dark Passenger by the press because he kills ride-share drivers. Dexter is not happy about someone else having his “Dark Passenger” nickname and sets out to find him.
So many amazing actors in the cast
Alongside the story playing out in the Big Apple, we see a mysterious woman chasing down serial killers to leave an invitation of sorts for them. The woman is portrayed by Uma Thurman, and from the trailer alone, we know she works with Peter Dinklage.
In other key roles, you can look forward to seeing Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine. He can currently be seen in the Apple TV+ series Smoke as well (and should win every award for that role), but is almost unrecognizable as the kind ride-share driver befriending Dexter.
Dexter®: Resurrection also features David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil, Murderbot), Krysten Ritter (Love & Death, Nightbooks), Neil Patrick Harris (The Matrix Resurrections), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), and Marc Menchaca (Barron’s Cove).
Also, James Remar is back as Dexter’s deceased dad, Harry Morgan, to help guide him.
Plus, there’s a new cop hot on the trail of all the killers. Her name is Claudette, and Dexter immediately spots that she’s actually good at her job. Kadia Saraf (The Better Sister) plays this role with wonderful nerve.

Clyde Phillips is the creator of Dexter: Resurrection, just as he was on Dexter: New Blood and Dexter: Original Sin. He is also still the showrunner on this latest installment, just as he has been for the other two spin-offs he created.
The original installment of Dexter ran from 2006 to 2013, and was created by James Manos Jr., and the entire universe is based on the novel “Darkly Dreaming Dexter” by author Jeff Lindsay. Clyde Philips served as showrunner from 2006-2009.
The 10-episode series premieres with a two-episode drop. Following this premiere, one new episode will drop weekly through the season finale. If you’ve been a fan of Dexter Morgan so far, then surely this will hit the mark for you as well. Enjoy!
Dexter®: Resurrection premieres on Paramount+ with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME® plan on July 11, 2025. It will also begin airing on Showtime on cable on July 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
