GLAMPING on Tubi is a new horror thriller with a slasher story. Well, in theory, anyway. It takes a long time to get to this point, which means that for much of its runtime, it’s more of a drama. A shame, as the core premise is intriguing enough. Read our full Glamping horror movie review here!

GLAMPING is a new Tubi horror thriller, which I admittedly expected a lot more from. With Tubi, it can be hits or misses, so you never really know. However, we have been treated to some pretty amazing horror movies in recent times, and the premise for this one sounded strong.

YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS OUT ON…

The 2025 Tubi horror movie Match which was excellent >

Unfortunately, the title (or plot) of this horror thriller doesn’t truly come into play until the third and final act. That means you need to sit through an hour (plus commercials) before the horror element truly kicks in. Far too long for any horror movie to show its genre – so to speak.

Continue reading our Glamping horror movie review below. Find it on Tubi from October 24, 2025.

No Glamping, No Horror

This new Tubi horror movie may be titled Glamping, but I’m here to tell you it doesn’t feature much glamping or horror. I mean, even the official plot on the Tubi streaming platform speaks of a “dream cabin getaway”.

Now, you can accuse me of mincing words, but by definition, “Glamping” is a word made up of the words “Glamorous” and “Camping”. As in a luxury camping trip. Well, this Tubi movie, once it actually gets to this part, is about four friends who go to a cabin in the woods.

Not on a glamping trip or experience of any kind.

Admittedly, the title of Cabin in the Woods isn’t as fun or fresh as Glamping, but it would be more accurate. So would focusing on the influencer element, which is what actually makes up most of the runtime in this horror thriller.

Glamping (2025) – Review | Tubi Horror-Thriller

Solid premise, terrible execution

Yeah, I’m sorry, but as intriguing as the premise of this Glamping horror movie sounds, it just does not deliver. The story may be strong, in essence, but the screenplay (or possibly the execution of the storytelling) is lacking in so many ways.

I absolutely love the idea of using influencers and our need to share everything online at the center of a horror movie. Sure, it is no longer the most innovative approach, but it still works.

Or rather, it should work.

Also, it’s cool that Glamping stars someone who won a competition. She isn’t my new favorite scream queen or anything, but she does her best with what she’s given. The star of Glamping is Rosemary Idisi, and she won the “Stubios Greenlight Contest“.

No, that’s not a typo, it’s a Tubi contest, so it’s called “Stubios”.

Hopefully, we’ll see Rosemary Idisi in another role that will do her more justice – or prove whether this is all there is expect. Again, overall, the actors are fine in this Tubi horror movie, but the story doesn’t help them deliver anything out of the ordinary.

Watch Glamping on Tubi now

Niki Koss is the director of Glamping, and this isn’t the first genre movie from the filmmaker. Personally, I know Niki Koss more as an actor. Not least, as she was in one of my favorite horror comedies: Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015).

The screenplay comes from Alexa Gartster, and this is only the second writing credit for the writer. First was Coyote Creek Christmas, a Hallmark Christmas movie. Before you think this is a bad sign. The same was the case for the filmmakers of Anything for Jackson.

Unfortunately, there are several issues with this Tubi horror movie, which begin with the title and poster teasing a movie much more kitsch and slasher-like than what it delivers. Ultimately, however, the biggest issue for me was that the horror slasher element takes forever to kick in.

A shame that this couldn’t deliver on what the premise promised, but I’m sure it will still entertain plenty of viewers who give it a shot on Tubi. I’m just not one of them.

Glamping is out on Tubi on October 24, 2025.

R.L. STINE’S PUMPKINHEAD on Tubi is a new YA Horror Movie for the whole family. Or rather, most of it, as it’s rated TV-14. Released just in time for Halloween, this comes from director Jem Garrard. Read our full review of the R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead movie here!

R.L. STINE’S PUMPKINHEAD is a new Tubi horror movie made for a younger audience. It could be a solid choice for Halloween for the entire family. However, this also means any hardcore horror fan shouldn’t expect anything too wild or intense.

The official rating is TV-14, and it is based on an R.L. Stine story, which should give you an idea of what to expect. For this Young-Adult horror movie about a pumpkin-creature, the runtime is at an efficient 90 minutes. Of course, with commercial breaks, it’s a lot longer.

Welcome to harvest season

A family moves from the big city, New York, to the small town of Redhaven, just as harvest season hits. The 13-year-old Sam may have thought that moving to this small town was as bad as it could get, but it’s about to get much worse as his older brother Finn disappears.

He doesn’t go missing, but simply vanishes, and then no one else can remember that he ever existed. Even their mom has no memory of her oldest son, and pictures of the family now only show Sam and his mom, while Finn has disappeared in every way possible.

With Halloween quickly approaching, Sam and his new friend, Becka (the daughter of the town’s Sheriff), must solve this mystery. They get help from Redhaven’s eccentric outcast, Rusty, who speaks of a strange and sinister harvest curse.

Can they save Finn before it’s too late? Or is he lost forever?!

R.L. Stine's Pumpkinhead – Review | Tubi YA Horror

Fun, scares, and pumpkin adventure

This latest Tubi genre addition is a young-adult horror movie that could just as easily (and more accurately) be called a YA horror-comedy. There is a lot of humor and comedy throughout, which results in a nice blend of chills, thrills, and fun.

With both fun moments and efficient jump scares, R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead is an adventurous genre-mix perfect for the whole family.

The new Tubi YA horror story stars Bean Reid, Adeline Lo (Sorry For Your Cost), Kevin McNulty (Snakes on a Plane, Lowlifes), Bob Frazer (Motherland: Fort Salem), Matty Finochio (Night of the Reaper), and Seth Isaac Johnson (My Old Ass, iZombie).

Watch R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead on Tubi now

Jem Garrard is the writer and director of this Tubi movie, which is of course based on a short story by R.L. Stine. Most of Jem Garrard’s previous movies have been South African productions (not that this is part of their plot), but this time is was made in Canada.

Previously, Jem Garrard has directed some amazing Tubi genre movies. Most are deliciously kitsch horror-comedies (or horror with dark comedy), which means this one isn’t like those at all.

Instead, it’s clearly (and lovingly) made with its core demographic in mind: Young Adults.

I don’t know that your average horror fan will find this movie particularly interesting, as it is made for the young-adult audience. However, I do believe it could be a solid introduction to the horror genre for the next generation, so get the family together and enjoy.

Just one final warning: The ending of this YA horror movie is surprisingly brutal!

R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead streams exclusively on Tubi from October 17, 2025.

MATCH on Tubi is a new Tubi Original horror movie. It’s part of their Halloween releases and a classic horror movie. Humberly González (Tarot) stars with a stellar supporting cast. The runtime isn’t too long, and the survival horror is perfectly delicious. Read our full Match movie review here!

MATCH is a new Tubi Original, and this horror movie is a well-timed Halloween release. This is a serial killer survival horror movie with an online dating premise and a story matched by Ed Gein, but with reversed roles.

This Tubi horror movie is not for anyone with a weak stomach, as the practical effects hit hard and in so many different ways. Good Lord, I did not see this one coming, but it is definitely a horror movie you’ll want to watch.

A house of horrors

If the fact that Match is a horror movie wasn’t enough reason to release it for Halloween, the actual house of horrors definitely is!

We meet Paola (Humberly González) as she’s trying her luck with online dating. Having matched with the classic “handsome stranger” online, she’s ready to go on a date and see where it can lead.

It turns out, this date will lead her to a house that is full of dark and sinister secrets. Will this be the kind of first date that people end up listening to on true crime podcasts?

Umm, definitely! In fact, she is far from the only victim. The “handsome bachelor” is a character I won’t forget anytime soon. The same goes for his mother, Lucille!

Match (2025) – Review | Tubi Horror Movie

Who is in the Tubi 2025 horror movie Match?

The absolute star and literal poster girl of Match is Humberly González (Waterfront). She’s even holding an actual lit match, to keep in line with the title, which otherwise refers to matching on a dating app.

Of course, she isn’t the only actor in the Tubi horror movies, so let me go over some of her co-stars. We have Shaeane Jimenez, Dianne Simpson, Jacques Adriaanse (Invasive 2: Getaway), and Luke Volker (Clickbait).

Most of these actors have already been in Tubi genre movies, so if you’ve watched a few, you just might recognize them. If you haven’t yet, there may be some movies to add to your watch list.

Still, their characters in this 2025 Tubi horror movie may just be their most memorable yet!

Watch Match on Tubi now

Match was directed by Danishka Esterhazy, and this is far from the first movie of hers, we’ve reviewed her on Heaven of Horror. She is also the director of Killer Body Count, Level 16, and Slumber Party Massacre.

This latest movie is a classic horror slasher with so many brilliant practical effects. Seriously, this Tubi horror movie was such an amazing surprise and the first Halloween treat of 2025.

The screenplay was written by  Jon Kaplan and Al Kaplan, who also gave us Lowlifes. In case you’re not familiar with it, Lowlifes is a horror-comedy and also a Tubi Original. That movie made it onto our list of the best Tubi Originals.

You can skip the trailer for Match (2025) if you want to avoid spoilers completely. However, even the trailer can’t fully prepare you for what you’ll see in the actual movie. I am not going to forget this one anytime soon… and only for delicious horror reasons!

Match premieres on Tubi on October 3, 2025.

TAKEOUT on Tubi is a new thriller from Jem Garrard (Slay), and it has all the awesome traits of this genre filmmaker. It involves a night shift at a diner and a serial killer. Also, of course, several amazing characters. Read our full Takeout movie review here!

TAKEOUT is a new Tubi Original from filmmaker Jem Garrard. This time it’s a farcical thriller, so we’re leaning heavily into satire and kitsch moments. Well, that’s usually the case (to some extent) for Jem Garrard movies, and I love it!

With this latest Tubi thriller, you’ll get a serial killer story and lots of awesome and fun characters to keep you on your toes. Please note that Tubi also has a documentary from 2020 with the same title.

Continue reading our Takeout (2025) movie review below. Find it on Tubi from September 19, 2025.

A serial killer during the night shift

For this latest Tubi thriller, it’s a serial killer story where the entire movie plays out in a diner. Unfortunately for those working there, it’s the only place open at all hours, so they get a lot of quirky and weird customers.

On this particular night, it includes a serial killer. One already on the news and with his own serial killer name: The Dollkeeper.

The only highlight for those working the diner night shift is that there’s a huge reward for information that leads to the serial killer. Also, they are not on good terms with the local cops, who annoy them during every shift.

Of course, with this being a farcical thriller, the three diner workers will soon find themselves in over their heads.

Takeout (2025) – Review | Tubi Farcical Thriller

Why isn’t our rating for Takeout higher?!

I’m using a lot of positive words for this review. Amazing, wonderful, and awesome have been scattered throughout this Takeout review of the Tubi movie. However, I do have one or two issues with it.

Well, “issues” is a bit much, but something is weighing down our overall rating.

Honestly, the main reason our rating isn’t higher is that it runs a little too long. However, that’s a minor issue that is highlighted by the fact that Jem Garrard is clearly a hit for Tubi.

A good thing for us genre film fans, as it means we get more genre movies.

Unfortunately, it also means that these movies are the product of their proverbial golden goose, so commercial breaks seem both more frequent and longer. At least this was my viewing experience.

Watch the 2025 Takeout thriller on Tubi now

Writer and director of Takeout (2025) is Jem Garrard, who has fast become a filmmaker I never miss out on. From Slay to Invasive and its sequel, Jem Garrard always delivers on intriguing plots and amazing characters.

The cast yet again features familiar faces. In true Mike Flanagan fashion, Jem Garrard also uses the same actors again and again. For Takeout, you can look forward to Deoudoné Pretorius, Daniel Janks, Darron Meyer, and the unforgettable Robyn Scott.

The star of this Tubi thriller is N’kone Mametja (Unseen) with Damien Wantenaar (Killer Body Count) in another key role. I hope and expect to see both in future Garrard productions.

Takeout premieres on Tubi on September 19, 2025.

The best horror movies on Tubi – find them right here! We’ve reviewed Tubi horror movies since 2023, and there are a lot of bad apples in that basket. But, luckily there are also good ones. Find the best Tubi horror movies on our list below.

Want to find the best horror movies on Tubi? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Tubi is releasing many new titles all the time. Or rather, sometimes the movies are new and produced by Tubi, other additions are horror movies that have been produced elsewhere.

Tubi has then ensured distribution rights and possibly even to the degree of labeling it “A Tubi Original”. Also, there are a lot of old (and good) horror movies on Tubi, but we’ve chosen not to focus on those.

For this list of the Best Horror Movies, we’re focusing solely on the original Tubi horror movies.

This should also make it an evergreen list as Tubi should never lose the rights to these movies again. We’ll update this page along the way, so whenever a new great Tubi horror movie or thriller is released, you’ll be the first to know.

So, make sure to bookmark this page to be updated on the best horror movies you can find on Tubi.

Here’s your guide to the Best Tubi Horror Movies

Our list of the best horror movies on Tubi

Match (2025)

After Paola is matched with a handsome online suitor, she arrives for a first date to discover a house full of dark and terrifying secrets.

MATCH is a serial killer survival horror movie with an online dating premise and a story matched by Ed Gein, but with reversed roles.

Lowlifes (2024)

The survival instincts of a road-tripping family are put to the test when they have no other choice but to stay the night at a remote homestead.

LOWLIFES puts a spin on the classic city folk versus hillbilly horror plot. Whatever you expect from the movie, be ready to get a few surprises along the way. Not only is the cast full of familiar genre actors, but they also work remarkably well in their respective roles. Also, the twists and turns along the way are just pure treats for us as viewers.

Slay (2024)

After a booking mistake, four drag queens find themselves performing for a mostly unwelcoming crowd, but when vampires attack, the crowd looks to the queens to save the day.

SLAY is an LGBTQ+ horror comedy with drag queens and vampires. It’s even better than I ever dared hope. The way I think it’s best described is by saying this is The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) meets From Dusk Till Dawn (1996).

No Voltees (2024)

When two siblings return to their hometown, they are confronted by a violent, ominous presence that inhabits their childhood home: their father.

NO VOLTEES is a new Tubi horror thriller that offers both intense jump scares and brutally realistic trauma and abuse. If you’d rather watch it as a story simply about a haunting then you can focus on that instead.

Killer Body Count (2024)

Mistaken as a sex addict by her dad, Cami is sent off to a remote religious treatment center where the other kids are being hunted by a killer.

KILLER BODY COUNT is a bonafide slasher. We’re talking old-school practical effects, and young people being targeted simply for their very natural hormone-induced physical desires. If you, like me, love your slasher with a side of horror-comedy and dark social satire and commentary, then Killer Body Count should be perfect for you.

Invasive (2024)

A young woman secretly residing in a billionaire’s lavish mansion stumbles upon dark secrets, sparking a desperate fight for survival.

INVASIVE is a horror-thriller by the writer-director of SLAY. You should not expect the same kind of movie as the previous one was a horror-comedy. I would’ve liked to see it be just ten minutes shorter with a bit tighter pace in the final half. Then it would’ve been a 4 out of 5, which obviously also means that you should watch Invasive!

The Camp Host (2024)

When a young couple and their dog lodge at an idyllic campground, things turn terrifying when the owner reveals herself as a psychopathic killer.

THE CAMP HOST is a slasher movie that takes place at a campsite, but the main characters are adults instead of teenagers. If you want to watch a slasher movie that actually has a story with some depth, then check out The Camp Host.

The Last Exit (2023)

During a vicious storm, two criminal brothers seek refuge in a desolate farmhouse where the resident family has their own secrets.

THE LAST EXIT is also known under the title LITTLE BONE LODGE. It’s a horror-thriller with elements from several other genre movies, we love. I would give this 3½ if we gave half ratings here at Heaven of Horror.

Guess Who (2024)

A family visit turns deadly when a psychotic killer, hiding behind an unusual tradition, shows up with one target in mind.

GUESS WHO is a classic horror movie that may be a little predictable at times, but it’s still very entertaining. It is a straight-up slasher with a few twists and a solid horror movie ending.

Our list of the Best Thrillers on Tubi

Looking for the Best Thrillers on Tubi? we’ve got you covered there as well. Since we also cover thrillers here on Heaven of Horror, we’d like to tell you about some great thrillers on Tubi.

There are a few really good thriller movies on Tubi, so you just might be in for a surprise treat on the free streaming platform.

Accused (2023)

After internet sleuths falsely accuse Harri of being a wanted terrorist, he must fight for survival against a deadly home invasion.

ACCUSED is a brutally realistic thriller. A man is incorrectly named as a perpetrator on the internet, and a very real witch-hunt happens in the real world.

Paradise (2024)

After internet sleuths falsely accuse Harri of being a wanted terrorist, he must fight for survival against a deadly home invasion.

PARADISE is a genre-bending Western Revenge Thriller. It’s a smart, funny, brutal, realistic, yet also extremely colorful (in every way) movie with interesting characters and a story that has heart and guts. I ended up enjoying this one much more than I ever expected.

From dream home to complete nightmare

In Get Off My Lawn, we meet a sweet suburban couple who cannot believe their luck as they’ve won with a lowball offer on their dream home. A few conditions accepted by them made them come out on top.

However, what really made the sellers choose them was a letter in which they promised to make this a real family home. The grandson of the previous owner, who passed away recently, is there to greet them as they arrive.

His name is Alec, and he has an old-school look and charm.

However, he also has a darker edge to his behavior. One you might ignore because his girlfriend and his childhood friend come across as very normal teenagers, so you might assume he’s just a little weird, but okay.

This would be a big mistake. Huge.

The kid is clearly troubled and will make the new homeowners struggle to feel at home. And then they will start to feel terrified.

Get Off My Lawn (2025) – Review | Tubi Thriller

Brilliant casting

As the story in Get Off My Lawn moves from being weird pranks and strange behavior by a teenage boy to real danger, the casting becomes paramount: If the characters aren’t portrayed in a believable manner, then it will all fall flat.

Fortunately, the casting of this movie is on point.

From the sweet young homeowner portrayed by Camila Banus and Tahj Mowry to the weirdly charming and extremely dangerous Alec portrayed by Jonah Hwang.

To me, Jonah Hwang has the same quality as the two young men from Milk & Serial, which is a huge compliment. I highly recommend that movie (find our review here)

The vibe of this movie is obvious from the opening scene, where we see the real estate agent (Melissa Jo Bailey) introduce the house to us. We’re seeing her from the point of view of the potential buyer, and she is an experience in her own right. Wow!

Even their new next-door neighbor, a classic Karen (though her name is Catherine in the movie), is portrayed wonderfully by Christine Dunford.

Watch Get Off My Lawn on Tubi now

Amara Cash is the director of Get Off My Lawn. From this movie alone, I can tell she is clearly my kind of filmmaker. In other words, I need to check out her previous work while waiting for whatever comes next.

Not unlike Jem Garrard, Tubi could be a place where people discover her work. And, not to throw shade at Tubi, but hopefully, both will be able to move on to bigger budgets and venues.

The screenplay for Get Off My Lawn comes from Arland Digirolamo and Alana Wexler, who (according to IMDb, anyway) are relative or complete newcomers. If the vibe of the story comes from the writers and the director, then I look forward to more from them.

For me, Get Off My Lawn is perfect for a Friday night. A kitsch genre movie that gets quite bloody along the way. Complete with a sinister character, who comes across as very charming, but in a deeply disturbing way.

Get Off My Lawn is on Tubi from July 11, 2025.

GREAT WHITE WATERS on Tubi is a Shark Thriller by none other than the director of Sharknado. This is nothing like that cult genre-mix, though. It’s not kitsch or fun, but it is very bad. I’m just not sure it’s all intentional. Read our full Great White Waters movie review here!

GREAT WHITE WATERS is a new Tubi thriller with a shark plot. Or really, it’s a shark thriller in the same way that Into the Deep was. Which means it’s more about stupid drug smugglers trying to get to their “goods” in shark-infested waters than anything else.

In other words, if you liked that movie, there’s a chance you’ll enjoy this as well. For me, this is just a really bad movie, with the added minus of being really terrible about sharks. They kill sharks while explaining there are other ways of dealing with them. It’s dumb!

Push it… or gauge its eyes out!

In Great White Waters, there was plenty for me to dislike. And yet, what annoyed me the most was ultimately the way sharks are treated and talked about. We hear one character saying that you can just “push them” and then continues: “… or gauge their eyes”.

I mean, that is wild. And not in any good way.

While I was hoping for something kitsch or just mildly entertaining, what I experienced was something slow and predictable.

Anyway, the core plot revolves around drugs worth millions having gone missing in shark-infested waters off the coast of Florida. Lots of criminals try to claim the stash, and none of them are likable or even fun. Also, there are a few “good guys”. Of course.

Great White Waters (2025) – Review | Tubi Shark Thriller

So bad it’s good? Not really

You know how sometimes a movie is so bad it’s good? Or, you know, can be fun to watch?! Well, Great White Waters is not one of those. It’s just plain bad. At least in my book.

Mostly, I feel that if you want to make a shark movie with grossly overstereotyped characters and cheesy one-liners, then you have to include comedy in some aspect.

It’s what made Sharknado work.

With the exception of one of two wild death scenes in Great White Waters, which admittedly did make me chuckle, I didn’t enjoy this movie at all.

You can watch Great White Waters on Tubi… but why would you?!

The director and co-writer of Great White Waters is Anthony C. Ferrante, who you may recognize by name as he directed the first five Sharknado movies. He has also made a shark movie for Tubi already.

The other Tubi Original shark movie would be the movie Blind Waters (2023), which we gave the same rating as this one. I know watching these movies can be a guilty pleasure of sorts, but it just is not for me.

A FAN OF SHARK MOVIES?

Watch the Shudder documentary Sharksploitation –  Ferrante is in it as well >

Give me a decent shark thriller with interesting characters and some sense to the plot, or just go full Sharknado. These “serious” movies that are made to somehow be bad but not in any fun or kitsch way? They just are not for me.

The cast trapped in this production do what they can, so I don’t blame them.

Great White Waters premieres on Tubi on July 4, 2025.

PLEASE DON’T FEED THE CHILDREN on Tubi is a new horror movie about a virus that turns people into cannibals. Well, sort of. We enter the story after this apocalyptic outbreak, so it’s a much smaller story. Read our Please Don’t Feed the Children movie review here!

PLEASE DON’T FEED THE CHILDREN is a new Tubi horror movie addition that should entertain most on a random Friday night. While this movie doesn’t have the most innovative or engaging plot, it’s fine. Just not anything more.

Michelle Dockery is wonderful as the villain, who is (in classic genre film fashion) the most interesting and entertaining character of the movie. Unfortunately, it all feels quite forced, and I never connected much with any of the characters.

Intriguing plot and poster art

I know the above may seem like a strange headline, but both the plot and the poster art (which is very reminiscent of several other horror movies) intrigued me.

Unfortunately, the actual movie isn’t nearly as interesting as what I was expecting. Whether my expectations were just too great or the movie isn’t all that good is a little up in the air for me.

IF YOU LIKE THIS, YOU’LL ENJOY…

The Tubi Original The Last Exit which worked much better for me >

The runtime is only around an hour and a half (without commercials), which is usually a good thing. However, for Please Don’t Feed the Children, I would’ve liked more time to get to know the characters. Everything happens too fast and feels forced.

When I don’t get to know the characters I’m supposed to be hoping will survive, then I’m just not very involved and don’t care if they don’t make it.

A psychotic woman in a remote house? *mild spoiler*

Overall, this is mostly the story of a woman who has lost a lot and desperately tries to hang on to what little she has left. Yeah, I did kind of root for her on/off as the story played out.

Not because she deserved it, but because I just didn’t care much about the other characters. So, you know, I would rather watch her as she was the most entertaining part of the movie.

Also, describing her as a psychotic woman is straight up wrong. She’s very aware of what she’s doing. I mean, you wouldn’t call the kid in Antlers psychotic, would you?! Yeah, that is a bit of a spoiler, perhaps, but nothing you won’t guess from reading the plot.

A little too all over the place

There is a bit of genre confusion for me with Please Don’t Feed the Children. From the title, which indicates that all kids are cannibals, to the fact that part of the scenery feels like a Western.

Sure, the world this story is set in is quite post-apocalyptic due to the cannibalism virus that has ravaged the US, but Michelle Dockery‘s character feels like something out of the Netflix mini-series Godless (which she was also in).

As for the title, the kids are rarely affected by this outbreak, while adults mostly are. While people are encouraged to “not feed the children”, it isn’t nearly as big a part of the story as I expected. And also, frankly, hoped for.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good outbreak and/or postapocalyptic movie, and never mind genre-hybrids. This just felt a little too all over the place while never being anything really.

Watch Please Don’t Feed the Children on Tubi now

Please Don’t Feed the Children was directed by Destry Allyn Spielberg, who gets her feature film debut with this genre movie. And yes, she does a solid job of directing and controlling both the pace and gorgeous visuals of this horror-thriller.

And yes, Destry Spielberg is the child of iconic director Steven Spielberg and actor Kate Capshaw. Has that made it easier for her to get into filmmaking? Undoubtedly. However, that doesn’t take anything away from this accomplishment. This is a well-made movie.

The story, however, isn’t one that worked for me. The screenplay comes from Paul Bertino, and I just never engaged much with any part of it. Not the characters, the idea of the cannibal virus, or even the mission of the kids to get to a safe place.

It just did not work, which meant it never clicked for me. Even the cast was good, with Michelle Dockery as the highlight and Zoe Colletti (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) and Giancarlo Esposito (The Residence) as key characters.

CHECKMATE on Tubi is a new serial killer thriller, which always sounds good to me. Unfortunately, this one was disappointing. The story was lackluster, and the execution didn’t do much good either. Read our full Checkmate movie review here!

CHECKMATE is a new Tubi Original thriller with a serial killer plot. We all know that Tubi productions can be hit or miss. And often, you’ll have an indication of which way it’s leaning within the first 5-10 minutes.

With this, it’s not a good start. It’s way too polished and full of tropes in the most grotesque ways. We’re talking perfect hair and make-up for all the women, while most of the men are simply wearing police officer uniforms. Also, the story is weak, especially the characters.

A chess master detective

With Checkmate, we’re getting a serial killer who plays a deadly game of chess. The killer is always carving their next chess move into the victim, which is highlighted by the fact that a piece from a chess board is found with the first victim.

It’s not rocket science, yet it takes Brittany (Joyce Glenn), a detective who’s also a brilliant chess player, to recognize this message. Already during this scene, trouble was obvious: It’s expected that we, the audience, are as ignorant as all the cops she works with.

Actually, it’s obvious that Checkmate might be off even earlier. From the weird camera angles to every room shown in the movie, which feels desperately like a set and is devoid of anything real or personal. And that extreme make-up on the lead, Brittany. As if she has time for that.

In any case, Brittany will team up with her estranged father, who is a chess master. Obviously, all you need to know to stop this serial killer is to be a chess master.

Checkmate (2025) – Review | Tubi Serial Killer Thriller

A serial killer playing a game

Checkmate is about a serial killer using the game of chess to send messages to the police. This in itself sounds good to me. Having a serial killer playing a game and “having fun” with the police trying to catch them is hardly anything new.

Fortunately, this doesn’t mean there isn’t room for more serial killer movies with a good storyline and interesting characters. I mean, I could watch movies like Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, or even the Tubi Original Lowlifes over and over again.

And I am always ready for a new amazing serial killer movie. Unfortunately, this Tubi Original is not it.

It especially isn’t a good production. No shame to the actors as the screenplay and directing (even the cinematography) is all over the place.

Lorenzo Lamas is never my cup of tea, and the role of the police Captain could’ve been portrayed by anyone in this movie. He didn’t make the character better, but I can’t say for certain that he made it worse either.

Watch Checkmate on Tubi now

Checkmate was directed by Jamal Hill (Brotherly Love, Deuces), and I recognize that someone can make a career from these Tubi Originals. While some people go down a Chris Stokes path of pounding out movies non-stop, others go the Jem Garard way of quality over quantity.

With three feature films and directing on two series in 2023 alone, it looks like it may the the former. But hey, there’s still time to change this. If Jamal Hill wants to do something different, of course.

The screenplay comes from Patrice Escoto. Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part, but I cannot imagine this movie is what Patrice Escoto envisioned would come from her script. It’s her feature film debut, and I truly hope it will get better for her.

The star of Checkmate is Joyce Glenn, and I hope to see better things from her as well. Rounding out the core cast are Dorien Wilson (The Parkers), Andra Fuller (The L.A. Complex), and Sarah Pribis (Two Sentence Horror Stories).

really wanted to like this and have another good Tubi experience, but this didn’t do it for me.

When a commercial begins and you feel relief that the level of quality increases immensely, you know the movie you’re watching is in trouble. A laundry detergent commercial suddenly feels like a more believable storyline than this movie, which speaks volumes about the challenges.

Checkmate streams only on Tubi from April 11, 2025.

INVASIVE 2: GETAWAY on Tubi is a new survival thriller. It’s the sequel to filmmaker Jem Garrard’s own 2024 hit. And yes, it’s just as good as the first – the right amount of kitsch and still with gorgeous slasher moments. Read our full Invasive 2: Getaway movie review here!

INVASIVE 2: GETAWAY is a new Tubi Original. Just as the first Invasive from 2024, it’s a survival thriller, so the final girl from that first movie is back in the lead. We really enjoyed the first movie, and with a few quick nightmare-induced flashbacks, we’re reminded of how that all ended.

A sequel can often be a letdown, but this Tubi movie is as good as the first – it’s just different. Not least due to this survival story playing out at a luxury resort on a small secluded island. The runtime is 1 hour and 37 minutes, which suits the story wonderfully.

Final Girl Kay faces a new challenge

With Invasive 2: Getaway, the clues as to the direction of Kay’s next survival challenge are revealed early on. If you miss out on this, you’ll be in the know from around the second act. The first act is all about introducing the characters of this sequel.

And also, showing us where Kay’s mind is at in the aftermath of Invasive.

Having barely escaped the ordeals of that first movie, Kay (Khosi Ngema) is struggling with PSTD and constant nightmares. Her solution is to try and be prepared for everything. That’s why she scopes out the entire luxury resort the second she arrives with her dad.

Plus, she has quite a few tricks up her proverbial sleeve, which will all be revealed in due time. For Invasive 2: Getaway, we see some wonderful characters. To me, the two that stood out the most were Alex (Deoudoné Pretorius) and Mindy (Robyn Scott).

In their own ways, they leave very memorable impressions, and I hope to see them both in even more Jem Garrard movies. To be fair, though, there are only interesting characters in this sequel. Sure, some are stereotypes, but there is always something more to them. You’ll see.

Invasive 2: Getaway (2025) – Review | Tubi Horror Sequel

Jem Garrard, please never change

I know change is part of anyone’s evolution as a filmmaker, but for Jem Garrard, I feel confident that change will only be in good ways. The quality of the storylines with camp and kitsch moments at the forefront is a stable that I adore.

From the first Invasive movie – which was so successful and enjoyed by viewers that a sequel was greenlit – to the brilliant vampire drag queen slasher Slay, I am one happy camper in the world of Jem Garrard.

Also, it is so wonderful to see this focus on using South African actors in these South African productions. Why would the filmmakers want to cast talent from the other side of the globe, when so much talent is there already?!

Having said that, I would love to see Jem Garrard’s movies make it to even bigger platforms and audiences. No shade to Tubi, but it would be awesome to see what a bigger budget could result in. Maybe South African actor and producer Charlize Theron should consider a partnership?!

Just trying to manifest a little something for this filmmaker, who seems to love this genre as much as we love their movies.

Watch Invasive 2: Getaway on Tubi now!

Jem Garrard is quickly becoming a filmmaker whose movies immediately go on my Watch List. They just never disappoint. From having gorgeous production quality to plot and casting, these movies are fun and entertaining.

This is not least due to the wonderfully quirky characters, who tend to have a surprise or two revealed along the way. Sure, the plot itself may not be chockful of wild twists and turns as much is revealed or foreshadowed. But hey, that’s the nature of most slashers and I, for one, enjoy that.

To me, Jem Garrard’s Invasive 2: Getaway is solid Friday night entertainment. In fact, all movies from Jem Garrard deliver on this (as mentioned in the above segment), so you could do a little movie marathon and be perfectly entertained by campy slasher movies.

Keep ’em coming, please!

Invasive 2: Getaway is out on Tubi from March 21, 2025.
