LOVE CON REVENGE on Netflix is a new true crime docuseries where one of the Tinder Swindler victims helps others who have been conned. It does feel a little over-produced and staged, but the cases are fascinating. Read our full Love Con Revenge season 1 review here!
LOVE CON REVENGE is a new Netflix true crime docuseries with six episodes. In this production, we’re back in Tinder Swindler territory, so it’s about people dating someone who turns out to be a con artist.
We’re getting multiple cases across these six episodes, but one case isn’t covered in each episode. Instead, it continues into the next and isn’t completed until the beginning of the next. It will surely make people binge-watch more episodes, but it’s also pretty annoying.

A carbon copy of MTV’s Catfish
As someone who has been watching the Catfish TV show on MTV (after initially watching the Catfish movie), this all feels very familiar. Even the way this new docuseries came about.
With Catfish, the victim of the original documentary, Nev, goes on to become the host of the MTV series with his sidekick, Max. In Love Con Revenge, we see Cecilie Fjellhøy facilitating help for the con victims with Brianne.

Our review of the Netflix documentary The Tinder Swindler here >
Cecilie Fjellhøy was one of the victims featured in The Tinder Swindler. After this documentary was a success on Netflix, women have reached out to her with similar stories.
So, yeah, exactly the same evolution as with Catfish. Again, I have been watching that show for years, so I am clearly a sucker for these stories.
Helping Cecilie is Private Investigator Brianne Joseph. The two become partners (like Nev and Max) and set out to help other con victims. The main difference, and I do acknowledge that, is that all of these cases are cons.
So many cons and so much money
We’re not just talking about someone using another person’s photos or lying about their age, location, or gender. Instead, all of these cases focus on people who ultimately cheat people out of a lot of money.
The title of Love Con Revenge reveals as much, I suppose. And the “revenge” part of the title is that Cecilie and Brianne help victims build actual cases that can be taken to law enforcement and be acted upon.
All in an effort to help these con victims reclaim their lives. Also, of course, to warn others of the dangers in modern dating.
Unfortunately, Love Con Revenge seems very heavily staged and over-produced at times. I want my true crime documentary to trust that their cases are intriguing enough that they don’t need all that hoopla.
Then again, I have no doubt that focus groups reveal I am not in the majority. After all, many other docuseries are equal parts documentary and reality.
Is that even possible?! To be a “real” documentary and a reality production in equal parts, I mean.
Is Love Con Revenge your new Netflix guilty pleasure?
Yeah, I think it’s safe to say that Love Con Revenge will be a guilty pleasure for many. Especially fans of true crime documentaries like The Tinder Swindler. And the cases covered in the six episodes of season 1 are pretty damn brutal.
With this Netflix docuseries, we’re in the niche of romance fraud. This is when con artists will use the dating scene to gain trust and “love bomb” people before they ask for money. There is a clear game plan – not unlike for cults.
If you were fascinated by The Tinder Swindler, then obviously, this investigative (and often very emotional) docuseries is perfect for you.
There will be examples of emotional abuse, financial fraud (in the form of romance fraud), and a lot of lives that have been ruined. Well, in terms of finance and trust in your fellow man, anyway.
Is this a classic example of “first-world problems”? Well, yeah, sure, to some extent it is. However, it’s also something many will be able to relate to. If not in full (hopefully not), then to some extent.
The world of dating has always been crazy and scary, but it only seems to have been getting worse in this digital age.
Love Con Revenge is on Netflix with all six episodes from September 5, 2025.
