While the seasons have had various amazing guest stars alongside quirky recurring characters (mostly residents at the Arconia), it’s all about our three podcasters. With season 5, there’s also a focus on another iconic character.

Another murder or a tragic accident?!

When season 4 ended, it was with yet another murder. Or was it? Only Murders in the Building season 5 begins with stating that it was an accident and not a murder.

However, whether this information is to be trusted still seems a little iffy. To put it mildly.

The possible murder victim of that season 4 finale was the beloved doorman of the Arconia, Lester. The circumstances of his death do look extremely suspicious, so obviously, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel believe it was murder.

The heartwarming episode 2

I won’t get into too many details about Only Murders in the Building season 5 for the simple reason that you need to follow the mystery on your own. Having said that, I have to commend episode 2 of its fifth season.

In episode 2 of season 5, we follow Lester from the day he was hired as a doorman in training to his final day. We don’t get all the answers about his final day, but we see how he came to love the building and its residents.

This was a wonderfully heartwarming episode about the life of a person who touched so many lives while creating a life for himself. Not what he expected initially, and certainly not including the more shadowy figures of New York.

As we also saw in the season 4 finale, a mobster is apparently missing and his wife (Tea Leoni) is looking for him, and she asked the podcasters for help. Why she went to them is revealed quickly, and it does make sense.

As always, Only Murders in the Building stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and  Selena Gomez as the podcasters. Actually, they are also murder mystery investigators, and even try their hand at an autopsy in season 5… well, sort of.

Also, Michael Cyril Creighton plays Howard, who keeps trying to get a producer credit on the podcast. Maybe this will finally be his year?!

As special guest stars, you can look forward to recurring cast members including Meryl Streep, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Richard Kind, and Nathan Lane.

Playing key roles in season 5 are also Téa Leoni, Bobby Cannavale, Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, and Christoph Waltz. Plus, we get Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, and Dianne Wiest.

Finally, Jermaine Fowler is now the doorman of the Arconia. Unfortunately, Lester never managed to finish his training (he hardly had a chance to start it), so he’s learning by doing. No small feat in this building.

In terms of creators and producers, I refer you to previous season reviews. These are the geniuses that make it all possible, after all. And I do adore this series. It’s such a feel-good show. Yes, despite being about murder.

Only Murders in the Building Season 5 begins on Hulu & Disney+ on September 9, 2025.

The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city they thought they knew and the new New York evolving around them — one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge.

– I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
